Installation & Operation
KOHLER® automatic standby systems provide dependable protection during unexpected power outages. KOHLER® has produced standby generators since the introduction of their first generator in 1920. KOHLER® generators provide clean reliable power for sensitive electronics to get you up and running quickly. This ensures your life goes on even when the utility power doesn't.
KOHLER® Residential Generator
When utility power is interrupted, the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) signals the generator to start and then quickly transfers the electrical loads within 10 seconds from the failed utility to the generator. When utility power is restored, the ATS transfers the electrical loads back to the utility and shuts down the generator. Your KOHLER® backup generator system can be sized and wired for your home or business in one of two power distribution scenarios:
Full Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario enables the generator to power all devices within the home or business, as if using normal utility power.
Essential Loads Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario isolates and supplies electrical power only to those essential devices that must function during a power interruption. Examples of devices and appliances that may be considered essential are:
- Lighting
- Refrigerator/freezer
- Security system
- Servers
- HVAC
- Water Well
- Sump Pump
