Service Technician

RP Power, LLC, is seeking a detail-oriented, driven, and resourceful Emergency Power Generator Service Technician to troubleshoot and repair diesel and natural gas prime movers, generators, switchgear, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).  The successful candidate will have experience in preventative maintenance, maintaining power generation equipment to include but not limited to diesel and natural gas prime movers, generator diagnosis and repair, and switchgear and ATS maintenance.  We provide a clean service vehicle, fuel card, lodging and per diem as required.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled preventative maintenance repairs of various diesel and natural gas engines, generators, switchgear, and ATS’s.
  • Be proficient at learning and utilizing manufacturer specific software to troubleshoot and diagnose engine and control system issues.
  • Facilitate technical support and liaison with equipment manufacturers.
  •  Perform scheduled, preventive, or predictive generator maintenance tasks.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair tasks.
  • Perform periodic inspections to identify maintenance needs.
  • Work in potentially confined areas of high heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Follow company processes and procedures for verbal/written communications.
  • Utilize all current technology for communication, documentation, and research.
  • Ensure safe operation of electrical equipment by enforcing company and industry standards.
  • Additional responsibilities may be added at the direction of company management.

High School diploma or equivalent; and, minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training in an Emergency Power Generation field or similar industry. 

Related Experience

  • Must be a safety leader and value the importance of safety practices and procedures.
  • Must have a good driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • Experience in maintaining generators, diesel and natural gas engines, control systems, electrical transmission and distribution systems.
  • Generator end troubleshooting and repair skills are essential for success.
  • Strong logical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Have working knowledge of engines (exhaust after treatment systems especially helpful).
  • Have working knowledge of and be able to interface with SCADA and BMS.
  • Able to read, interpret and execute steps dictated in service manuals, diagnostic equipment, and electrical schematics.
  • Document and communicate equipment status clearly with service coordinator.
  • Able to work to achieve goals and objectives with minimum direct supervision.
  • Must be open to training, direction, constant learning and professional improvement/development.
  • Able to demonstrate and present a high level of professionalism and organization.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must possess standard tools of the trade.
  • Must be able to travel to sites in local area.
  • Must be able to travel within RP Power’s area of responsibility on short notice for periods of 2-5 days to resolve customer issues (expenses & per diem paid).
